Chuan’r Party #2: Leading a Chinese private global company as an American

It’s all settled! Chuan’r’s second party will be held on 7pm, 15th October. 

Our second guest speaker, James Dougherty, is a perfect representative of a new group of international young entrepreneurs studied and worked in China. Together with some global-minded Chinese partners, he co-founded Capvision, “one of the few Chinese service companies with truly global ambitions, competing head to head with western counterparts on their home turf in Europe and the US and taking market share from these well established firms”. He will talk about his experience as a young business leader working with the increasingly globalized Chinese companies in the private sector, which is a much more vibrant story than the sector of State Own Enterprises.

As a contrast to this very mainstream talk, we happened to find a venue that symbolizes alternative culture: Mädchen ohne Abitur on Körtestraße 5 in Kreuzberg. It is a deliberately kitschy and very cozy place, with a friendly owner who happens to be interested in China.

As usual, a cocktail party will follow the talk for participants to communicate with each other and enjoy themselves. With every entrance ticket (3.5 euros) you can get a free drink. Tickets can be bought at the entrance with cash.

James

James is a co-founder of Capvision, a China based primary research firm. Founded in 2007 in Shanghai, it was the first “expert network” based in Asia and is the largest firm of its kind in Asia in terms of revenue and team size. Capvision works with hedge funds, private equity, big three consulting firms and multi-national corporations to facilitate one on one phone calls and face to face meetings between our clients and individuals with deep subject matter expertise.  This allows for fast industry knowledge accumulation; clients can quickly understand an entire industry or learn about the effects of a new technology on a market by speaking to people who have worked in the industry for 5-40 years.

James is currently based in Berlin and London where he is building out Capvision’s capabilities to cover markets outside of China. Capvision is one of the few Chinese service companies with truly global ambitions, competing head to head with western counterparts on their home turf in Europe and the US and taking market share from these well established firms.

James previously worked for Capvision as Vice President of Global Sales in New York office for four years and has over 10 years of experience in the consulting and business development space.  Prior to Capvision, James was on the International Sales and Marketing team at iSoftStone, and IT outsourcing company in Beijing, and worked at Bloomberg LP in New York City as a Terminal Sales Representative.  He is a native of Boston and New York, but has spent much of the last 10 years overseas.
